Yesterday, while at work, I had to think about the reentry of Phobos Grunt, probably around January 16, 2012, in relation to Deep Impact on comet Tempel 1.

I thought that the specific Pi- based Design as described in HDDesign ( and HDDesign only ), which was first unveiled by the continued mission of spacecraft Deep Impact/Epoxi with the scheduled and actual comet encounters and the Deep Impact/Epoxi-Earth-Moon Transit expressing Pi as described, could give indications of hidden underlying Intelligent Design.

I determined the 2 Pi points as described in HDdesign between Deep Impact on comet Tempel 1 on July 4, 2005, and the expected reentry of Phobos Grunt around January 16, 2012.

The first Pi point is around Venus Transit Midpoint around June 8, 2008, just after the 'artificial' Earth-Moon-spacecraft Deep Impact/Epoxi Transit, the event that led to the discovery of the specific Pi- based element of HDDesign, see timeline Q2 2008 here:

The second Pi point is around February 10, 2009. On that day a Russian and an American satellite collided over Siberia, creating a large amount of space debris.

That was yesterday

The 'confirmation' came today, ISS has to change course in order to avoid collision with this very same space debris caused by this satellite collission at Pi point:

Strong earthquake hits Japan

Tokyo (CNN) -- A 6.8-magnitude earthquake shook northeastern Japan on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The Japanese Meteorological Agency issued a brief tsunami advisory, warning of a half-meter wave. The tsunami advisory was called off a short time after the agency issued it.

The quake was centered about 270 kilometers (170 miles) off the east coast.

There were no immediate reports of damage, police said.

This temblor comes three days after the one-year anniversary of the earthquake and tsunami that killed thousands in Japan, and triggered the world's worst nuclear crisis in a quarter century.

Cassini spacecraft makes Saturn moon flyby



The scientists are using Cassini's Ion and Neutral Mass Spectrometer instrument to learn more about the composition, density and variability of the plumes from Enceladus.

Scientists previously detected salts in these jets, which suggested the sub-surface liquid water ocean was probably in contact with Enceladus' rocky core.

This makes Enceladus an even more important target in the search for life elsewhere in the Solar System

Failed Mars probe to fall to Earth

A Russian spacecraft that failed to head for Mars after its November launch will fall back to Earth Jan. 9, experts said.

The Phobos-Grunt mission, launched Nov. 9, was supposed to return rock and soil samples from the martian moon Phobos but has been stuck in a so-called support orbit since its thrusters failed to put it on course for the Red Planet, RIA Novosti reported Friday.

The probe will break up during re-entry and none of the fragments is likely to reach Earth, said Vladimir Popovkin, head of Russia's Federal Space Agency Roscosmos.

The spacecraft's 7.5 tons of fuel are stored in aluminum tanks that are expected to explode upon re-entry.

Experts at NASA said Russia has failed in all 17 of its attempts to send study missions to Mars since 1960.

Russia may join European Mars mission
Moscow (UPI) Dec 9, 2011 - Russia could become a full partner in a planned U.S.-European Mars exploration mission, a European Space Agency spokesman said.

Senior NASA, ESA and Russian space agency Roscosmos officials have agreed to continue talks on the issue, ESA's Franco Bonacina said.

ESA Science Director Alvaro Gimenez Canete met with Charles J. Gay, NASA Associate Administrator, and deputy Roscosmos head Anatoly Shilov at ESA headquarters in Paris Wednesday, RIA Novosti reported.

The meeting "ended with optimism" that Russia could provide a Proton rocket to launch a European-led Mars mission in 2016 in exchange for full membership in the exploration project, Bonacina said.

ESA's ExoMars project is facing difficulties due to a reduction of financing from NASA.

Oleg Korablyov, a deputy director of Russia's space research institute, said Russian scientists are interested in joining the project to speed up the development of his country's own program of Mars research as well as cut its expenditures.

All of Russia's 17 independent attempts to study Mars since 1960 have failed, NASA said.

Arab League told to pull its monitors out of Syria

Anger mounts as killings continue under the noses of inspectors sent to impose peace plan

An advisory body to the Arab League yesterday demanded that the organisation withdraw its monitors from Syria, saying they are being used by the regime as a "cover" for continuing its abuses.

The Arab Parliament said the 100-strong group of observers, in the country to ensure President Bashar al-Assad sticks to an agreed peace plan and stops the bloodshed, should leave "immediately". The Kuwaiti head of the 88-member parliament, Ali Salem al-Deqbasi, said: "The killing of children and the violation of human-rights law is happening in the presence of Arab League monitors, raising the fury of Arab people.

"The mission of the Arab League team has missed its aim of stopping the killing of children and ensuring the withdrawal of troops from the Syrian streets, giving the Syrian regime a cover to commit inhumane acts under the noses of the Arab League observers."

The mission entered the country last week after weeks of prevarication by the Syrian government, which eventually gave way to head off the prospect of tougher sanctions. But the mission's presence has failed to prevent scores of civilian deaths in the past week.

"For this to happen in the presence of Arab monitors has roused the anger of Arab people and negates the purpose of sending a fact-finding mission," the Parliament's chairman Ali al-Salem al-Dekbas said. "This is giving the Syrian regime an Arab cover for continuing its inhumane actions."

Meanwhile, two of Syria's nascent opposition factions have set aside their differences to unite around a road map for a transition to democracy should the embattled Assad regime fall following months of pro-democracy protests that have left an estimated 5,000 dead.

The move by the Syrian National Council (SNC), an exile group formed in Istanbul in September, and the Syria-based National Coordination Body for Democratic Change in Syria, marks the first serious attempt to bridge divides within the fragmented opposition to challenge President Assad, who has overseen a brutal crackdown against dissenters to his rule. The two opposition groups reportedly signed the deal on Friday.

The Syrian authorities have consistently portrayed the uprising as a foreign-backed insurrection by "terrorist armed gangs" and claim more than 2,000 members of the security forces have been killed. With expectations low that the monitors, whose numbers will be expanded in the coming days, will be successful in holding the regime to account, opposition factions appear to have sidestepped major differences in putting forward their transition plan.

The deal rules out any foreign intervention "that harms the sovereignty or stability of the country", although Arab League intervention is not considered foreign. It also envisions a one-year transitional period, during which Syria would adopt a new constitution that would lay the foundations for a "democratic, pluralistic civil state".

The agreement, which will be put to other opposition factions, is significant in that it commits the SNC to dropping calls for a Libya-style intervention, one of the main stumbling blocks preventing a broader opposition alliance. But it remains unclear to what extent the deal will win support from rank-and-file members of both groups amid complaints that they were not consulted.

U.S.-Iran Tensions: Mideast Showdown Builds As United States Tightens Military Ties To Israel

WASHINGTON -- Storm clouds darkening over the Middle East suggest a growing peril for the United States and the possibility of a new war that could embroil the U.S., Israel, Iran and others in a bloody, costly fight.

Behind this week's exchange of threats between Iran and the United States over access to the Persian Gulf, seasoned analysts see a perfect storm of factors that could trigger armed conflict.

Iran's work on nuclear weapons is fast approaching a "red line," the crossing of which both the United States and Israel say is unacceptable and may have to be halted by force. Washington and European capitals are preparing new sanctions that would sever Iran from the international banking system, a move that would cripple its economy and that Tehran has said it would consider a provocation to war. Growing violence in Syria threatens to spill over its borders with Israel, Lebanon and Turkey, a NATO ally.

Amid the saber-rattling rhetoric from Washington and Tehran, and Arab world upheaval from Egypt to Iraq to Yemen, the United States is planning an unprecedented escalation of military cooperation with Israel, including massive joint exercises this spring to practice joint command and maneuver of ground forces in combat.

And political campaigns, including a struggle between bitterly opposed factions in Iran's March parliamentary elections and the U.S. presidential contest culminating in the fall, are likely to keep all these tensions at a boil.

"'Powder keg' doesn't begin to describe it," said Louise Arbour, president of the International Crisis Group, an independent organization that monitors global tensions. "Rising strategic stakes have heightened the regional and wider international competition," she wrote in a new assessment. It is, she concluded, "an explosive mix."

U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said last month that the planned maneuvers with Israel, dubbed Austere Challenge, will be "the largest joint exercise in the history" of U.S.-Israeli relations. What had been a biannual series of command-post computer training with simulated forces held in Germany has been expanded this year to Israel and will include U.S. Army combat troops on the ground in Israel, commanded and maneuvered by joint U.S.-Israeli command centers in Europe and Israel.

The joint maneuvers are part of what Panetta has called "unprecedented defense cooperation" with Israel, which also includes joint naval exercises and the training of U.S. Marines on counterterror and urban warfare operations with Israeli commandos.

Austere Challenge will play out in May, shortly after a massive joint missile defense exercise, Juniper Cobra, that will involve U.S. and Israeli defense systems and missile interceptors.

U.S. officials in Washington and Europe declined to provide details on the joint exercises. Air Force Capt. John Ross, a spokesman for the U.S. European Command, which will conduct Austere Challenge, said the exercise "is not in response to any real-world event."

But Iran's work on its nuclear weapons, newly documented last month by the inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, is driving events at a fast clip. Panetta has said Iran could have a nuclear bomb in "about a year ... perhaps a little less" if Iran, as suspected, has a secret uranium enriching facility.

Should Iran cross that "red line," Panetta told CBS News on Dec. 19, "we will take whatever steps necessary to stop it."

The Obama administration and others have tried economic sanctions to drive Iran to abandon its nuclear program. According to a recent report by the Congressional Research Service, the extensive web of international sanctions against Iran is not having an appreciable impact on its economy, which is growing at an enviable 3.5 percent annual rate. But Iran's economy -- and particularly its state-subsidized imports of food and gasoline -- depends on unfettered access to global financial markets.

Legislation reluctantly signed into law by President Barack Obama last week requires the president within 180 days to impose sanctions on any foreign financial institutions that deal with Iran's central bank. Widespread refusal to deal with Iran's central bank would strangle the country's access to hard currency from its oil revenues, which earn Iran, as the world's fourth-largest oil exporter, about $75 billion a year.

In response, Iran has threatened to close the Persian Gulf at its chokepoint, the Strait of Hormuz, through which pass some two dozen giant oil tankers a day carrying one-third of the world's oil consumption.

Although the president can waive the new sanctions for 120 days at a time, a White House spokesman said the administration is working with its European allies and others "to be in a position to most effectively implement" the sanctions, seeking to "avoid negative repercussions to international oil markets."

In anticipation of an oil trade war -- or worse -- oil prices have risen sharply this week, and Iran's currency, the rial, briefly fell to a new low in a signal of rising consumer prices for food and fuel.

The risk, of course, is that the heated rhetoric and implied threats gain a momentum of their own. "As these things go forward it's more difficult to step back," said Michael Adler, an Iran scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center in Washington. Speaking of the region as a whole, he added, "It's a tinderbox squared or cubed."

The unintended danger arising from the threatened sanctions is that they might push the U.S. and Iran toward conflict rather than toward a peaceful conclusion, warned Vali Nasr, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, a Washington think tank. "This is a significant escalation of tension between the United States and Iran, and the start of a more dangerous phase in the West's attempt to curtail Iran's nuclear program," he wrote in a new analysis.

"War between the U.S. and Iran may very well start, not if and when Washington decides to strike against Iran's nuclear facilities, but because sanctions designed as the alternative to military action end up hastening its advent," Nasr wrote.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — All eleven people on board have been killed when a hot air balloon crashed near the rural town of Carterton, some 94 miles (150 kilometers) north of the capital, Wellington.

Wairarapa District Health Board spokeswoman Jill Stringer says the 11 people died when the balloon came down near show grounds north of the township in rural Wairarapa county.

Police have confirmed there were "multiple deaths" when the balloon crashed.

Eyewitnesses told local media of seeing up to 32 feet (10 meters) of flames rising from the balloon's basket before it plummeted to the ground.

Police say they have no details yet of what caused the early morning crash in clear, bright conditions with minimal wind. The region is well known for its hot air balloonin

Thousands of US troops land in Israel. Aircraft carrier coming soon



Thousands of US troops began descending on Israel this week. Senior US military sources told debkafile Friday, Jan. 6 that many would be staying up to the end of the year as part of the US-IDF deployment in readiness for a military engagement with Iran and its possible escalation into a regional conflict. They will be joined by a US aircraft carrier. The warplanes on its decks will fly missions with Israeli Air Force jets. The 9,000 US servicemen gathering in Israel in the coming weeks are mostly airmen, missile interceptor teams, marines, seamen, technicians and intelligence officers.

The incoming American soldiers are officially categorized as participants in Austere Challenge 12, the biggest joint US-Israeli war game ever held.

The maneuver was originally designated Juniper Stallion 2012. However, the altered name plus the comment heard from the exercise's commander, US Third Air Force Lt. Gen. Frank Gorenc, during his visit two weeks ago, that the coming event is more a "deployment" than an "exercise," confirmed that Washington has expanded its mission. The joint force will now be in place ready for a decision to attack Iran's nuclear installations or any war emergency.

Our sources disclose that it was decided at the last minute in Washington and Jerusalem to announce the forthcoming Austere Challenge 12 on Thursday night, Jan. 5, ahead of the bulletin released by Tehran about another Iranian naval exercise at the Strait of Hormuz to take place in February, although its 10-day drill in the same arena only ended Monday, Jan. 2.

The early release was decided in consultations among US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak and the two army chiefs, US Gen. Martin Dempsey and Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz.
British Defense Minister Phillip Hammond, on a visit to Washington, was brought into the discussion.
The handout circulated to US correspondents from Hammond's talks in the US capital affirmed that Britain stands ready to strike Iran if the Strait of Hormuz is closed.
However, that phrase was omitted from the British minister's remarks at a news conference, following a last-minute request from Panetta, signifying the Obama administration's interest of keeping a low profile on plans for attacking Iran.

Tehran too is walking a taut tightrope. It is staging military's maneuvers every few days to assuring the Iranian people that its leaders are fully prepared to defend the country against an American or Israeli strike on its national nuclear program. By this stratagem, Iran's ground, sea and air forces are maintained constantly at top war readiness to thwart any surprise attack.

The joint US-Israeli drill will test multiple Israeli and US air defense systems against incoming missiles and rockets, according to the official communiqué.

debkafile's military sources add that they will also practice intercepting missiles and rockets coming in from Syria, Hizballah in Lebanon and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

It will not be the first time a US aircraft carrier docks in Israel for joint operations with the Israeli Air Force. On June 9, 2010, the USS Truman dropped anchor opposite Israel to test a joint deployment against Iran and its allies. The carrier and its air and naval strike force then staged joint firing practices with the Israeli Air Force over the Negev in the South.
Washington and Jerusalem are doing their utmost to present a perfectly synchronized military front against Iran: American officers are stationed at IDF command centers and Israeli officers posted at the US European Command-EUCOM. At the same time, debkafile's military sources disclose that full consensus has not been reached on every last particular of shared operation against Iran, should one go forward.
